19th-c-original-oil-painting-hunting-dog-irish-setter
19th C Original Oil Painting Hunting Dog Irish Setter

This artwork appears to be a 19th-century oil painting on canvas depicting a dark-coated hunting dog (such as a Gordon or Irish Setter or pointer) standing in a pastoral landscape with trees and a body of water.
• The Canvas and Stencil: The canvas has a rough, hand-woven grain consistent with 19th-century linen or hemp canvas. The block-printed stencil "CFINTER" is likely an abbreviation, code, or registration mark from a 19th-century artist colorman (an art supply manufacturer) or a regional European canvas supplier.
• The Stretcher Bars & Keys: The wooden frame supporting the canvas features triangular corner brackets (keys or wedges) used to keep the canvas taut. The darkened patina, oxidized surface, and wide-plank wood frame point to a period construction, typically dating between 1850 and 1890.
• Framing Technique: The canvas is tucked and pinned directly into an integrated mitered wooden backing frame. The hand-cut edges and oxidized iron tacks are hallmarks of mid-to-late Victorian-era framing.
The combination of the hand-prepared canvas, the specific "CFINTER" supply stamp, and the age of the wood strongly supports that this is a genuine antique 19th-century sporting painting, likely of British, French, or American school origin.

• Dimensions: 11.25" x 8"
• Oil on canvas medium
• Block Printed C FINTER on back of canvas from supplier - not an artist signature

Good Condition - normal wear for age - please see all photos
This painting has areas of paint wear - see photos
